Members of modern society carry a heavy burden. Being born into a world where you have to prove your worthiness in order to have a home, is a harsh experience for even the strongest of us. We also live in a world where tears are shamed, physical touch is sexualized, and modern day slavery lives on via sex trafficking.
There’s a reason why many religious people believe us to be living in the modern dark ages, morally speaking. It came out somewhat recently that the elites are creepy, evil occultists who eat babies. Supposedly, this was out there on the mainstream news.
I was not surprised because I came across a conspiracy theory rabbit hole about the elites back in 2017 and all the government coverups of sex trafficking rings. During my reading binge, I discovered the ties to ritualistic abuse.
I also saw a video a few months ago of unmarked helicopters releasing unmarked metal boxes full of genetically modified ticks which carry Alpha Gal, a disease which can cause a red meat allergy. This was happening in properties across the country. I saw a video about the middle class increasingly sleeping in their cars. All that to say, we live in a scary world.
Tons of members of Planet Earth end up with anxiety, depression, and even more debilitating mental and physical illnesses. It may not be fully proven by science yet, but I believe from personal experience that many physical maladies have spiritual or emotional roots.
It’s not a surprise to us that stress causes something to be “a pain in the neck,” so why should it be a jump to believe that emotions are stored in other parts of the body, too?
I’ll always remember something an amazing person I know said. It was along the lines of:
“You’re anxious because you’re part of an unjust system. You’re having a natural reaction to something that’s wrong. It’s a problematic society; you don’t have a problematic brain or heart.”
Every once in a while, a person says something that blows my mind and changes my entire world. Casual brilliance. Another example of this was a woman who talked a lot at my old job at Comfort Suites. She talked to me even though I had my ear buds in, or while I was reading a book or clearly busy in other ways, so I didn’t always listen.
But once, she said “You should start eating healthy when you’re young, otherwise you’ll start to feel it when you get to be my age” (she was 50 or so). After that, i switched to eating healthy and stuck with it for quite a few years. Recently, a stranger from the Internet gave me some casual brilliance when they said that the world still needs human writing.
I used to be a freelance writer, but the gigs I used to do don’t exist anymore. It was general content for websites, a lot of affiliate marketing content about products). I’ve been explaining it to people as “AI does my old job now.” But I hadn’t realized that I was letting that stop me from other types of writing!
And from there, my blog was born.
I won’t pretend to have the cure to the anxiety that can result from being a member of modern society. But I do have suggestions which could be helpful. It also helped me very much to be aware of how corrupt the World is so that I could see and feel myself as something separate from (as well as part of) it.
Some Things That Helped Me
I don’t want to give generic advice, but some cliches are cliches for a damn good reason. Nothing helps your mood like exercise or fresh air. These basics can be easy to forget, when you’re struggling or simply have other things on your mind. Where I live, it’s super hot and the weather is finally cooling down, so I’ve been appreciating that. Here are some other ideas:
Screenless Mornings
Start the morning without the internet or your phone in your face. I find that the rest of the day moves in a calmer way and I am more aware of myself and patient when I start the day without screens. I used to keep my phone on silent in the morning in the other room and do something else, like journaling.
Breathwork
When I learned that some people have emotional releases and cry from breathwork, I was interested in trying it. It feels like an altered state. I tend to prefer active meditations where there’s a focus or an activity, so it worked well for me.
Emotional Knowledge
I once heard someone say that emotions are pointless noise that just get in the way of things. If you feel that way, I have to say I disagree! They are the fuel for life, and the point of basically everything. We do things to gain an emotion: satisfaction. Excitement is what gives us motivation. Love inspires potentially everything.
Fear is an emotion and it can save our lives. Based on my time listening to various people in life, I can say that suicidal urges are common. Fear stops people. Emotions are not pointless because God is intelligent and so is the human body and system. Emotions can just FEEL like hindrances with our programming.
We are programmed to only want to feel the good feelings and avoid the bad feelings. Smile even when you’re crushed inside. Take the high road and stay calm. Don’t let people see you cry. We avoid our more shadowy feelings and suffer more for that. Getting in touch with your darker emotions is a must for becoming a balanced person.
